Insights from CLO Miami: Fostering an Agile Learning Organization

At the opening panel of CLO Miami, “Fostering an Agile Learning Organization,” our insightful panelists shared valuable thoughts on how learning leaders can help the organization remain relevant in today’s business landscape as technology and society shift rapidly around us. Focusing on skills that offer longevity, ensuring ever-evolving learning content, and understanding the learning needs of each department are crucial, they mentioned. Here are just a few key takeaways on how to best foster agility:

Meta-Skills are Indispensable

Anna Maria Sencovici (AMS), Chief Talent & Diversity Officer at Royal Caribbean Group, shared the importance of “meta-skills” or those skills that withstand the test of time: “The half-life of skills keeps shrinking. What does that actually mean, as an organization, as individuals, and everything in between? It means trying to grow our capability to learn how to learn. Skills like thinking strategically and creativity — those are meta-skills.” These skills are evergreen, allowing the workforce to continuously adapt as technological skills quickly evolve.

Iterate Constantly

Dr. Eli Bendet-Taicher, Head of Learning & Talent Development, Global Executive at Wix.com, emphasized the importance of constantly adapting and updating learning content. “Wix is a tech company and things change rapidly all the time — we have to keep up with that pace. Everything that we do, everything that we create — it’s living and breathing content.” Examining data and feedback to continuously improve and change learning content and strategy is crucial.

Be Better Business Partners

Sarah Hollywell, VP of Enterprise Learning at Prudential, noted that aligning with the overarching business needs is key to fostering an agile learning organization. Working with each department and “finding out through design thinking their top priorities” is beneficial, she said. Supporting the business includes not only measuring metrics, but also aligning goals through design thinking.
